Hypnotherapy guides you into a calm, focused state in which the mind is more open to suggestion, then uses that state to work on habits, fears, pain or unhelpful patterns. You remain aware and in control throughout, and most sessions combine talking with a guided relaxation. Sessions run sixty to ninety minutes, and many hypnotherapists work by video as well as in person.
People seek hypnotherapy to stop smoking, manage weight, ease anxiety and phobias, sleep better, prepare for birth or exams, and address long-standing habits. When choosing, look for recognised training and membership of a hypnotherapy association, ask how many sessions they expect for your goal, and check whether they offer a free initial chat.

No. Hypnosis is a natural, focused state, similar to being absorbed in a book, and you can open your eyes and stop at any time. You will not do or say anything against your values. The hypnotherapist guides the process, but the change comes from your own mind and your willingness to take part.
It depends on the goal. Stopping smoking is often one or two sessions. Anxiety, weight or long-standing habits typically take four to six sessions over a couple of months. Many hypnotherapists offer a short first conversation to assess what you need and to explain how they work before you commit.
